And the planes aren't exactly "rotting"... in fact, the desert is the best place to keep these planes preserved for as long as possible, "just in case." There are military craft stored this way as well, and depending on how extensive the preservation measures were, the military can prep some of these aircraft and have them go into battle within 36 hours.
