The other thing you need to consider is how much luggage you are bringing with you. If you book the entire trip on one PNR, the piece concept applies to the entire itinerary (you get to check 2 bags up to 70lb each).

If you break your trip into separate reservations, the non-North America portion itinerary would be subjected to the weight concept (20kg total I believe). While the itinerary with the ORD-FRA legs would be covered by the piece concept. Of course, the $570 you saved by breaking it up can go towards paying excess baggage charges if you exceed the 20kg.
