I take a lot of still portraits so speed isn't always a concern.
The 10D/20D is a DSLR and as such has no LCD output while shooting since the sensor is exposed only when the lens aperture opens. The optical viewfinder is used with a mirror for through-the-lens viewing, just as with traditional film cameras. The LCD is used for post-shot viewing, histogram, statistics, etc.
Someone did recently release a device that clipped a camera over the viewfinder and displayed the image on an external screen, but that's a bit of a kludge.
