I had a different experience. I had a paid IAH-ABQ, and reward tickets for my wife & son on a separate reservation. I used my elite card at the kiosk. I was shocked to see my wife's reservation pop up on the screen & I was able to get boarding passes for her & my son. BUT the kiosk would not issue my boarding pass. A messase stated the I had already checked in for the flight.

The problem was eventually resolved, but after multiple bad experiences similar to that one, I avoid the kiosks.
