Scientific evidence says: 3-5 mg melatonin each night for five days. PubMed search results.

My experience with melatonin is excellent. For eastward flights that is; with at least 6 hour time zone difference.

Almost forgot the most obvious: get a seat in business class, wear ear plugs and eye mask.
