I wish it was this way for the rest of the US. I hate feeling rushed when the waiter brings the bill so early.

I think this is more of a customary/regional difference than any lack of service. I have found that when I was in Los Angeles the waiters would always bring me the check without waiting, or have the check handy and ask if there was anything else. Now that I am in New York I find that I do have to ask for the check, not that the waiters here are (all) bad, just that they seem more content to allow us to linger.
