One more final question. The return we're scheduled for a 1235P return flight that gets in at 845P. The 6A bank of flights that connect at DEN/SFO/PHL would put us in alot earlier and would actually be preferable to take (its going to be an all-nighter and an earlier flight to sleep on is ^). Is there any problems trying to standby for these other than flying standby for all the flights?

No problem to do that other than the possibility of sitting at DEN, SFO or PHL all day if you can't clear the standby list on your new connection.

I would take a look at Y availability online or call UA when you get to Vegas and then make a decision on whether to risk it. Right now all the 6AM departure with connection in either DEN, SFO or PHL look good.

Besides, if you take your confirmed 12:35 PM departure, you can spend more time at the blackjack tables.

BTW, are your tickets UA-issued or US-issued? I see that you have a US FF on your FT handle. If it's US-issued and you try to stand-by for a US-operated flight, you will have to pay a $25 fee just to be added to the US stand-by list. If UA-issued, I believe US has to honor the fare rules of the UA ticket.

Can anyone please confirm this?
