As nobody answered this I'll simply add that somebody familiar with IATA terminology contacted me to say that the Delta's description clearly applies to the *first* flight coupon regardless of whether it is the trans-oceanic flight coupon or not. Had they wanted to describe the trans-oceanic flight coupon (and possibly any preceeding flight coupons) they should have specified it as such (something that some other airlines apparently do).
Of course explaining all this to somebody at DL is still a challenge at best......
Thanks for following up on this question. As I posted in the MR forum, I called SMS numerous times about this fare, and I finally ended up being unable to make changes in routing until my destination (i.e., no changes in routing until past the first
five flight coupons). I was, however, able to change dates from flight coupon four on. I would agree that arguing with DL about these issues is not a great pleasure, but I would be interested in an explanation from experienced FT Delta flyers. Thank you!
