Here's a question for a cop... If the cops showed up today and asked for a consent search without a warrant, would you watch TV and let them kn, knowing what they are not going to find?
If the cops had a warrant, you'd have little choice. Of course, watching TV may mean you don't have the chance to argue "it was planted; I saw it" but one could still say "it was planted!"
