You could always exit the plane immediately, get a good spot on the benches and let your friend be the last one off the plane.

That should save them 15 minutes or so of sitting around with a bunch of people (although I couldn't imagine that the room you would be waiting in is more crowded and crammed than the tube you flew there in).
