I shoe them the id that they don't read and sign either Not My Signature or Ura Moron on the slip. None have caught that, so I am tempted to do a chargeback and see what happens when they produce a signature, but that would be fraudulent so I won't. I have also begun just paying cash to avoid the hassle.
When using machines that have you sign on the electronic screen I usually just make an X. If my kids are with me one of them gets to make an X. I've *never* had a problem.
