After the 5/25 MBNA Mastercard International Fee Change
I was in Euro territory from May 12 to 25. On May 25th, the changes to the MBNA MC took effect.
Most of my charges were prior to the changeover. My costs went up about 2% for charges posting after 5/25 as compared to immediate prior charges.
I had one UA VISA charge during the pre-5/25 period, at a merchant who took only VISA. The amount there was 2% higher than comparable MC charges.
Finally, I used my ATM for cash. My credit union charges $1 regardless of the amount withdrawn. Again, the cost of these funds was about equivalent to what MBNA charged AFTER the changeover, and what VISA has been charging all along.
So, my conclusion is that MBNA was a good deal while it lasted, and that all 3 concepts (ATM, VISA, MC) are essentially identical for me now.
I've told MBNA that I will stop using their card for international purposes effective immediately, and also for domestic uses except Amtrak. That remains my concept.
