True - airlines will offer whatever people will accept, if they can get away with it. If you don't want it, don't accept it. If it's $50, $150, etc. - as long as there are people standing in line to take it, then that's the going rate - until they have to up the ante.

Personally, I also pay attention to whether they say it's cash or a voucher - they are usually quite clear about the terms. The terms for IDB are usually quire clear...
