I actually started doing this mildly in 1993... USAir flew AUS-PIT-CLT or AUS-CLT; I usually chose the former.

I also flew AUS-LAX-CDG-XDB and v.v. in 2000, before I discovered FT. But as a pure mileage run, was in 2001 after I joined.
