As a slight sidebar to this - my friend is crew for BA. He works on 777 and 747s. BWI has recently gone over to 777. It was the first time that he'd ever flown there.
On your point, could be that thye need the planes for all the new India flights that they've started flying. Or maybe, less people are flying to IAD?
