We are not talking about the other passengers, just the OP!! 20,000 miles is quite acceptable and the fact that the OP chose the $300 was his choice. To me the points would have been a better deal but we have our own preferences. I would look at it simply by looking at the trans-at sectors where the difference D to W is 25,000 miles RT, so 12,500 OW. Add 7,500 for annoyance and delay and you get 20,000. If AC offered this on their own and without prompting then double kudos to them.
