I'll second the Pan Pacific (especially the bathrooms), if you're looking for a more modern hotel. They too have room rate specials often. The OP didn't discuss a budget, but I'm assuming in my recommendations that cost is important!

Certainly, the St. Francis has lost some of its charm with the closure of the Compass Rose, formerly one of the best places to get a martini and a little caviar for a fun splurge. The new bar is lacking the former bar's charm and history. I'm still, however, a fan of the St. Francis for personal, sentimental reasons. Hey, if it's good enough for the Queen.....
