Thanks for all the comments. And I am glad that Jon pointed out my mistake because I am thrilled that all AA awards still allow an out-of-the-way stopover. I do not wish to drive SJC-LAS, so will probably attempt YUL-DFW-LAS(dest)-LAX-SFO(stop)-JFK-YUL. This route allows me to fly transcontinental for the first time, and see what the fuss is all about over the ice cream sundae! I am just hoping that forking out 20K miles extra per ticket is worth it over just getting a plain T award. Also, my partner seems sure that we will be able to take a heli-tour of the Grand Canyon from LAS. So it should be quite a trip!
