The Mark Hopkins is great, but you might get a much better price with a Starwood promotion at the historic St. Francis in Union Square. Some of their tower rooms have very nice views. That way, you could shop in Union Square, eat dinner a Kuletos down the street from the hotel, take a cab up to the Mark Hopkins for a nightcap at the Top of the Mark if you wanted to soak up that view, and finish off the day in your "heavenly bed!"
