Much more than an F ticket.
I couldn't imagine allowing my father to fly in a lower class of service than me. I would gladly take the C seat to have my Dad kick back in F. For a lot of us here, flying Int'l F isn't a "once in a lifetime" thing...but for a lot of our relatives, it is.
So agreed! I am in a similar situation planning a international flight this Christmas with my parents and sister, except that I am trying to get my
parents the upgrade to C since they've never flown anything but Y. Failing that, I will give them the two E+ seats I'm allotted, and my sister and I will be in E-.

A little uncomfortable, yes, but I can't imagine upgrading myself but not them.
