As service is declining in all areas in UA, you may need to wait until the gate for your fathers upgrade. I would suggest a re-licking of the card before approaching the GA with both your fathers and your own BP. Dip your head so that the agent sees your forehead before any other part of your body and approach in a "ramming" fashion.

I've never missed out on an upgrade using this tool
