I wouldn't. There is a good reason that political talk raises the ire of FT moderators: This is an informational board about travel. Politics is an issue that often has 2 sides talking AT each other, but not TO each other: they will continue arguing, and going down a slippery slope, until it gets insulting and personal, since (for example, in this thread) the "impersonal" part can be discussed in about 30 seconds:
Some people think it's better to travel to places where gay tourists aren't welcomed, since you can interact with the gay people there and don't leave them for dead; some don't, thinking it emboldens the government to oppress gays more.
Actually, that was done in about 10 seconds. I think we should travel there, you don't. My reasons are valid, your reasons are valid. We were both allowed to tell our reasons. Now what? We start saying things like, "How could YOU, with a conscience, GO THERE? Now, it's about the poster, instead of the "political" issue.
Nobody stopped the discussion: Peter simply warned us that if this thread gets away from its OP's purpose (which was about travel to Beirut, things to do there, etc). So, if we have any more travel tips about Beirut, or NEW information not already mentioned, we are free to mention it. Otherwise, stop beating a dead horse.
Thanks for the work you do, Peteropny.
