SchmeckFlyer is correct. You need to ask the immigration officer to stamp a piece of paper for you for the same reasons you just gave. It is a very, VERY common occurance there, so don't feel like you are the only one doing this. Just make sure you point that out as soon as you get to immigration or they will just go ahead and stamp your passport.
