I am a Treo 600 user and constant traveler to Europe, India. I have a bank if SIM cards - one for each country I visit. I normally top up and am pretty happy with rates.

I have an imminent trip and stay in Japan for 5 weeks. I am told my quad band Treo 600 will not work and purchase of local SIM cards not possible,

Savvy travelers to Japan - is this true?

What is the most cost-effective way of staying in Japan for 5 weeks and being able to connect back home to Ohio. I am not a cheapskate but am unwilling to mortgage my home for service.

Any input from knowledgeable folks will be greatly appreciated.
