Kingfisher Airlines' Vijay Mallya has his eyes fixed on the big bird--the Airbus 380. Mallya has placed an order with Airbus for five A-380s.
This is part of Mallya's plan to acquire 15-20 large aircrafts including A-350s and A-330s. These moves indicate that Kingfisher is drawing up plans to fly international.
However, at the moment, not a single Indian airport is equipped to land the A-380. Also, by the time the A-380 is ready for commercial use, sometime in 2007, few Indian airports may be able to handle the aircraft.
Interestingly, by 2007 Kingfisher will have almost completed five years of domestic operations and will be eligible to fly overseas as per Indian aviation norms. It is most likely then, that Mallya intends to use these planes for international traffic.
