Seriously, I would then consider changing carriers. While I have found AF to be absolutely crap in this department (FIM'ing you onto another carrier when they screw up), I have found that airlines including BA, DL, SQ, CX, and other will do it without a moments notice (again though, when they screw up, I mention this because in weather situations some of the carriers will NOT do this as it is an "act of god" rather than something they screwed up, or at least that is what they'd claim).
