True, the codeshare credit is a given. Just as we can earn Aeroplan miles flying RoyalJordanian, or at least used to be able to. But as you note, these MX flights must be booked using the AC flight code and numbers. It was flying pure MX that don't count. Though it appears AC maintains reciprocal FF arrangements that still permit mileage accumulation on AC flights for Frequenta members, which is odd to have for just one party but not the other [i.e. AE members cannot earn miles flying pure MX flights].
