Name-brand chain hotels in Maine are few and far between and the peak summer season is pretty short, so prices are unusually high.

The HGI in Old Port is definitely the way to go. I've also stayed at the HGI up in Auburn and it was really very good also... not too handy for the coast, but new and well-kept and great staff. And they're building an HGI in Freeport which is supposed to open for business very soon.

Never stayed at the airport property but it's been there for years and years...
