I did sign up about a month after the card was announced, so maybe there were some problems with the initial customer base. Other than that I have no idea why it happened.
Over the course of 7 months I called in and heard a bunch of excuses. Everything from "We're starting an investigation" to "A dispute has been filed", etc. Everyone promised it would be fixed the next billing cycle, but it never was. Net-Net I was shorted 75k points (I had more flight points, but adhering to the spend points > flight points principle.
In any case I may have jumped the gun on myself. While I was very poilite to the rep, I insisted on having the card cancelled today. Now I am without a Visa / MC and must rely on my AMEX. I'm wondering when the first time I run into "We don't accept AMEX will be"
I also need to find a new card ASAP. If I have to call Citi back tonight to open an AA MC then it will be very embarassing
