Well, for a domestic flight the next day, it's likely that all of the FC has been allocated. Unlikely you will get the upgrade. Also, if you would prefer the morning flight instead of the redeys, why would you have booked the redeye?I love the redeye for going back east on the weekend. Leave Friday night, get there early Saturday morning. Leaving the next morning would kill half of Saturday.
Also, depending upon the reason for the delay (weather, for example) they do not owe you a room; they may give it, but you may also be on your own in that regard.
