AMEX does not cover rentals in Italy -- Visa and MC do. Therefore, Primary insurance obtains on the CDW for Italian car rentals, so long as it is not bundled in with the rate that you pay.
Diners new policy is equivocal on this subject because the language is vague -- it advises you to check with your car rental agency. Presumably, they are telling you to find out if your rate includes CDW, and if so, then they will not cover you for it; however, it would appear that if it is not so covered, then they will provide CDW coverage up to and including $75,000.00 for the rental vehicle.
I hope to use my new DC for my rental in Italy and will do so, only after this clause is clarified to my satisfaction.
Hertz does not bundle it in with their rates.
