Singapore Hotels report
Some updates on Singapore hotels, since there has been nothing posted recently (that I found). I am Diamond.
Conrad – 3-day stay in Mid-May. Upon arrival, told no rooms available on Exec floor, and we were not permitted to use Lounge (too busy). Was rather upset, but calm, and asked if as Diamond we get anything else. Non-committal answer. Later that day (while we were out) they delivered a S$85 bottle of French sparkling wine (VERY nice), plus a letter stating we could use the lounge for the final two days of our stay. Also, a 2nd bowl of fruit with items NOT in the bowl given to all customers. So all in all, they made a nice recovery. Once we got lounge access, daily “afternoon tea” there was nice.
Conrad breakfast – I believe this is a new policy. We don’t ordinarily consider breakfast as something we must have. But we were in a unique position to compare different sites: 1) Oscars is the downstairs restaurant; 2) Business Floor guests (where we were) and Golds got breakfast in the 4th floor Salon by the Pool; 3) Executive Floor and Diamonds get breakfast either in the Exec Lounge, Oscars, or room service Continental breakfast. Now, ALL THREE BREAKFASTS ARE IDENTICAL! Of course Oscars is very roomy, and lots of food out. To do the same thing in the Exec Lounge, they do have small food stations for everything – the food goes fast, but they are excellent at always replacing food as it runs low. FWIW, we actually preferred the 4th floor Gold location, as being a nice compromise between the spacious Oscars and the cramped (when getting food) Lounge.
Couple weeks later in June, back in SIN, but staying at the Orchard Rd. Hilton. Given a welcoming letter upon arrival, stating upgrade to Exec Floor. However, the agent immediately told us that was not possible (0 for 2 in SIN), but we could access the Lounge. Given a room on the “HH Floor.” (Four floors listed as “Exec Floor”). Then the agent told me, rather quietly, that “except for Suites, all our rooms are the same size”). Did some checking later on, and indeed same number and spacing of rooms on “regular” floors, HH floor, and Exec floors. No welcoming amenity here, so we helped ourselves in the Lounge more than usual.
Both places, two bottled waters/day. For about S$60 more, would take the Conrad. If around S$100 more for Conrad, would take the Hilton.
All in all, did enjoy both places. Posters have noted that the Conrad is isolated. But a huge shopping area is nearby (SunTec City Mall) that is connected to an underground entrance right outside the Conrad. The underground, going around the Fountain of Wealth, is loaded with shops and many restaurants, good place to walk through and enjoy. Had a couple nice meals in this area.
