>>>>>>I am wanting to book a ticket either via northwest or klm but wonder if it would be cheaper via another booking agent online or off. Does anyone have experience with this?
My guess is that NWA.com shows best available fare for any particular flights in "real time". Sometimes, a downline engine like Orbitz will show a lower fare, but when you try to actually book it, it disappears, because it is actually an old quote or a misquote. If NWA says that nwa.com will have the lowest purchasable fare, that must be because any other booking engine will ultimately have to align itself in "real time" with the nwa database.
The only potential exception to this, is if NWA were to contract other fares with other agencies, the way they used to do with my local consolidator. My local consolidator used to have good "deals" for international travel on NWA, but now has fares that are uniformly somewhat more miserable than what you get at nwa.com, and I never use it any more. My guess is that NWA now relies solely upon it's "real time" database for the fares it chooses to sell--and that any other downline engines or retailers ultimately will either sell something the same price or higher, or will have to report that their special fare is "sold out" for the flights requested. If this is so, then any downline engines or retailers will not be able to sell anything lower. They may accurately reflect the NWA database, or they will be somewhat out of sync--but if they list a fare lower than what you get at nwa.com then that fare will either be inaccurate, or "sold out" for the flights you want. (Priceline or any other no-name options potentially excepted). But that's just a guess.
