Yikes - That is quite awful. Compensation should definitely be received, but how to go about asking for it depends on what will make things "right" for you. Will a few thousand miles do or are you looking for some cash?

Recently in NY at a fine restaurant in midtown, a woman had ordered a salad in the restaurant to take home. As she ate her salad she felt something odd in her mouth. She did what you did, ie move it in her mouth to spit it out. And presto, the top piece of a finger came out. She definitely reported it back to the restaurant and has filed a lawsuit claiming pyschological trauma (only in the US for $5M ). The restaurant owner initially said no one has lost a finger but upon further investigation has discovered that a migrant worker did in fact lose his finger tip while cutting a piece of chicken. No comment about what the status of the lawsuit is.....
