Is this a checkcard or a regular ATM card?

I have a regular ATM card and I have never had a problem. I never ask the bank for a checkcard for the reasons you don't want to take your current card to europe.

I would consider moving some of that cash to an account not linked to your account and take your card. You really don't want to walk around with tons of cash and you may need more and be hosed when you really need it later.
