Thanks. I figured that would be the answer. That confirms what the AA RTW desk told me; I also called LAN, and they said that if I ticketed flight 600 EZE-LAX as one segment, I would have to book it in D, since F isn't sold on the EZE-SCL portion. Accordingly, I would likely not be in F for the SCL-LAX portion. Only way to ensure an F seat is to book it as two segments (EZE-SCL, SCL-LAX).

The good news is that for my probable dates of travel, LA600 (SCL-Northward) is showing F4 A4, so finding A inventory shouldn't be a problem.
