Actually mufaddal, it wasn't an invitation. We are a small, family business and started looking around at card offers. Here is what we settled on…
First off – as you probably know, the basic difference between OPEN and regular Business cards from AMEX is where the liability is placed. OPEN has liability on the primary cardholder, and standard Business cards push liability to the company if they gross over $2B a year or something. We were looking at the OPEN setup.
What I found is the OPEN Platinum is $300 per year for the primary cardholder. They can add up to 5 additional cardholders under their name for $150 per year, per card. What I did, since I have a Rewards Plus GC for $150 a year and added my name to the primary’s account. However, since accounting isn’t really that big of issue for us (i.e. separating business from personal purchases) I am going to pay for the majority of purchases with my Gold, have the company pay it’s portion of my bill, and have the Platinum mostly for the travel benefits.
Thus, I am getting the benefits of the Platinum personal card, regularly $395, for $300. One could probably knock that down to around $250 if they had the Grn Rew card.
I hope this makes sense – since I have thought about it so much, sometimes one cannot see the forest for the trees. Any comments are welcome.
