Good news! My company is sending volunteers to Sri Lanka (RML) to build a Habitat House. Since I am going that far, want to combine it with 1 wk personal travel. Plans are to fly somewhere in Asia over Labor Day, meet the group in RML 9/10 - return 9/17. I plan to travel alone during my personal time.
1. Where would you recommend to go for personal travel?
A little about me...
Only places in Asia I have been are HKG, SIN, and SYD / MEL / HBA. The most I have "roughed it" is in a lodge in the Peruvian Amazon through a tour operator - never gone "backpacking" before. I enjoy things like day-hiking, museums, historic buildings, horse-back riding, shopping in outdoor markets, etc., but am not the "triathalon / climb Mt. Everest" type of girl. Also, I HATE bugs, rodents, etc. (

).
2. What airline(s) / mileage maximizing strategies would you recommend based on the following:
- I am based in ATL and am SM on DL through 2/06 (though their recent "fly one" promo). Have ~7000 MQM's for 2005. If I renew my Plat. DL Amex (not sure it is worth it anymore), I could have 10K MQM's added.
- Other travel plans - ATL - PIT for x-mas, may do ATL - EZE on Varig in December or January.
- Not sure if we can book C or J fare (Hope so!

) Cannot charge airfare to personal credit card - business travel must go on company's master travel account.
- May have to book one ticket into Columbo on 9/1 - 9/17 - then book a separate RT ticket to wherever I decide to go (depending on if RT is less $ than including the excursion).
Thanks, in advance, for your advice.
