Stopovers often throw up issues on the online booking engines. It is not a lot easier dealing with UK telesales as they dont understand foreign originating fares. I have found the best thing is to call the local tlesales office. They will know what they are doing and hold the seats. You SHOULD then be able to get BA UK to pick up the booking at a very good GBP exchange rate which can then be charged to your Amex, thereby avoiding the awful Amex FX rates.
