I was on a 2 cabin 767 a while back from ORD - SFO in First and had dinner (4 or 5 pm departure). Along with my surprisingly-good Asian vegetarian meal, I had an amazing ice cream sundae with whipped cream, hot fudge, and a Piroutte (wafer stick). Yum! I think the regular choices were a crusted salmon and some herb chicken dish (I don't really remember, but they looked pretty good). We even got after dinner liquor... it was quite a meal, especially for domestic. The only thing I would have liked was to have WARM rolls instead of cold ones... oh well, the nuts were warm though!
On the way back from SFO - ORD, I was on a 2 cabin 777 during the day, so lunch was served in First. They forgot my vegetarian order, but the FA was nice enough to make me a caprese salad by combining a bunch of sides. The regular choices were the dreaded deli plate and a smoked salmon salad. Dessert was a warm cookie, either chocolate chip or oatmeal, not a sundae. The outbound meal was clearly better, but the meal on the return flight wasn't half bad considering the situation.
If you're traveling domestically during the day, I don't think you'll be getting a sundae even to the west coast... and the meals seem to be more average, IMO. Evening flights with dinner are better, with a higher chance of that ever-elusive ice cream sundae. Good luck!
