USAFAN - If it is of any consolation to you, you can take your written notice of denied insurance coverage and use it to obtain a free credit report from all three bureaus (works out to something like $25 for three credit reports). Last time I was turned down for a credit, I just took a written determination letter they sent me and attached it to my written request to the credit bureaus. Got my reports within 2 weeks.
Although free credit reports are being rolled out region by region per Fair Credit Reporting Act (or whatever it is called), consumers in the Eastern United States (I see that you're based in Florida) will have to wait for a few more months until our turn. So, you might be able to get your credit report for free now and save the option allowed by law until later.
