I came here in 1974. But visiting here and living here, as you know, are two different things. The present stores imho are usurious, the options too few, and the quality poor overall. Costco will help people who live here who I believe now want and deserve more and better choices. I remember when Home Depot was coming here, and there were the same discussions. But now, almost 2 years later, you run into everyone on the island there, and I believe it is accepted as a positive change. The main hardware/lumber store on the island announced the week before HD opened, that they were leaving. I have not heard one person say they miss Hale Kauai.

You can still visit Lana'i, which hasn't changed much at all in 30 years.
