Getting to * Silver through Aeroplan - What's the downside?
Hello,
I live in the States, don't fly AC much (if at all) but do have friends and relatives who can use my AC awards.
Since I live in Phoenix, with this America West (HP) and USAir merger, I think I might get myself the Star Alliance Silver status. I know officially "* S" does not do much for you other than things like priority waitlist. However, it seems you do get pre-boarding and preferred seating on UA/US.
It seems it would be quicker for me to get to *S through AC by flying on UA now. I really don't care about earning miles on UA/US/HP - care more about the pre-boarding and short security line.
What is the downside for my scheme?
Thanks.
