Not sure about BA but its quite common to have a spring loaded latch on the aisle armrest. Its right where the armrest joins the seat back on the bottom of the armrest. Slide it back at the same time you lift the arm rest and hey presto..!!

Im 6ft 5" and its a life saver on long flights... watch out for being kneecapped by speeding food carts though..!!
