Hi, Tim. Yes, an upgrade with miles can include the entire one-way itinerary. Just be sure there's award capacity on both legs (JFK-SFO and SFO-SYD) before committing the miles. You can be waitlisted on one or both, but it's better to have that bird in hand before you buy your tickets.
