Booking a flight to SYD from JFK, strange fare problem

So I'm booking a flight to SYD out of JFK and I have a stack of miles I would like to blow on an upgrade. Normally, I wouldn't spend miles on an upgrade, but for a long flight I think it might be worth it.

Anyhow, the standard flight option from JFK is JFK-->SFO then SFO-->SYD. So, if I were to upgrade, it would be the SFO-->SYD leg. However, when I check the ual.com booking page I noticed that they have an option for JFK-->SYD with a note that there is a plane change. I suspect that this is exactly the same set of flights, but the fare is coded as one hop.

So here's my question. If this is coded as just one hop, will I be able to upgrade both legs with just one upgrade? I realize I'm being a little greedy, gut I figured I would ask .

Cheers!
Tim
