Again, conjecture on my part:
The events of that day are a matter of great debate, and supposedly a contibuting factor to Mr. Welch's hasty departure to JetBlue. It has been said that when Welch signed on, he was given assurances that he would be given a fair degree of autonomy over YYZ affairs, in order to expediently get his house in order. I have been told that the "Great Time Card Raid of '05" was not of his design as well as not in keeping with the way he likes to approach employee relations. Apparently, he was not happy when it was conducted right under his nose. I hear he was also kept out of the loop when things blew up during the walkout and the subsequent company/union negotiations went over his head. I don't think he was given much of a chance to use his skills.
