Not much to tell, not that I am privy to anyway. Anything I say is pure speculation.

That said, I don't think you have to be an MBA to read between the lines on this. YYZ has been a mess for years and has seen dozens of AC bureaucrat GMs over the years come and go. The Welch hiring was supposed to bring some outside perspective to the operation from a guy who a had been in a very similar situation that YYZ finds itself in currently.

Prior to coming to YYZ, he was CO's GM at EWR, an airport with a bad reputation undergoing a massive infrastructure upgrade that served as a hub for an airline that had recently flirted with bankruptcy and suffered from some of the worst labour relations in the business (sound familiar?).

The difference is he turned EWR around. In YYZ, he presided over a huge wildcat walkout and now is on the way out after approx. 380 days on the job.

I think the Welch experiment was AC's last amicable attempt to make YYZ work. I think the gameplan now is to make it work by any means necessary... and that could possibly entail further antagonizing the unionized staff, to - or maybe even beyond - the boiling point that was reached on the day of the wildcat strike. How that animosity might manifest itself is anyone's guess. Just my opinion.
