I don't think a laptop would be considered "commercial goods" and doesn't really fall into the catagory of "equipment". I use the Nexus pass and always travel with a work laptop. I would suspect the vast majority of CANPASS or Nexus pass holders would carry a laptop. Of course, if you are also crossing with comercial goods that's a different story.
