The reason for limiting size is the size of the space in the bins, and between the seats. The reason for the weight limit is A) the bins only hold a certain amount, and B) as they want to limit the total weight of you luggage (even the pcs concept has a wieght limit per bag - and did I have fights with UA in getting those bags checked)
